Hymns

This child is entrusted (Baptism hymn)

This child is entrusted,
enfolded in love:
a new life enriched with
new life from above.

For the gift and the promise,
to God bring your praise!
And tell of God’s mercies
to the end of your days.

He’s/She’s known and he’s/she’s precious,
for so Jesus said;
the Father has numbered
the hairs on his/her head.

For the gift and the promise,
to God bring your praise!
And tell of God’s mercies
to the end of your days.

The water we’ve poured here
is a sign and a vow:
it cleanses and gathers;
we’re God’s people now.

For the gift and the promise,
to God bring your praise!
And tell of God’s mercies
to the end of your days.

Thanks be to the Father,
thanks be to the Son,
thanks be to the Spirit,
ever three, ever one.

For the gift and the promise,
to God bring your praise!
And tell of God’s mercies
to the end of your days.

A hymn for use at infant/child baptisms, with passing allusions to John 3. 3-8 and Matthew 10.30. Tune: ‘Afton Water’ (Scottish traditional)
