Praise to God! The Lord of History,
whom our hearts and minds revere,
now is present with his people
as we come to worship here.
Praise to God whose Holy Spirit
calls and gathers us as one;
sends us out in work and witness
to complete the task begun.
On this day of celebration,
Lord, we seek your will anew:
may we build on this foundation;
to your Gospel keep us true.
May we find our Father’s pleasure
not in duty paid and shown,
but in love unbound, unmeasured,
freely given, freely known.
For the Son of God incarnate
did not grasp an honoured place:
in submission as a Servant
he revealed the way of Grace.
So whatever may befall us –
jubilee or time of trial –
strengthen hands and hearts for service
as we walk a second mile.
